FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., Nov. 10, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The FDA is advising consumers not to purchase or use Red Bull Softgel, a product promoted and sold for sexual enhancement and weight loss in the United States.
"This product is marketed for sexual enhancement and does not have the FDA approved safety and efficacy for this indication," said FDA Commissioner Scott Gottlieb. "While we are committed to providing consumers with safe and effective products, we have also observed that consumers may have inadvertently received or purchased a potentially harmful product."
FDA laboratory analysis confirmed that Red Bull Softgel contains sildenafil, the active ingredient in Viagra. Viagra is prescription-only and will not treat erectile dysfunction. Sildenafil is used to treat erectile dysfunction in men. Men taking nitrates or nitric oxide donors for chest pain or heart disease should consult a doctor before using Red Bull Softgel.
This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.
